Being Brought to Christ as Our Enjoyment, L.K. |
|
I was born and raised in a small west Texas town. Having Christian parents, I was exposed to the gospel of Christ and saved at an early age. Hearing the Word, I opened my tender eleven-year-old heart and received Jesus into me to be my Savior and life. I always considered from then on that I belonged to Him. When I was twenty-one my wife was saved and I rededicated my life. Later we both came to know that He was calling us into His service. We then began to prepare for that service, whatever it was. After finishing college we began to wonder why we seemed bogged down spiritually. We wondered if we had actually experienced John 8:32: Ye shall know the truth and the truth will set you free, or John 14:21: ...and I will love him and will manifest Myself to him. We did not feel free nor were we sure He had manifested Himself to us. As the result of our feeling, a desperate prayer went up to God committing ourselves to whatever He required in order to have the peace and assurance of freedom by knowing the truth and having Him manifest Himself to us. Within two weeks certain circumstances brought us into contact with a couple who were reading the books of Witness Lee and Watchman Nee. We learned that we had a human spirit, (Zechariah 12:1) that we are one spirit with the Lord, (1 Corinthians 6:17) and that the Lord became the life giving Spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45b). What a revelation of truth. We also learned about and practiced prayerfully reading over the word (Ephesians 6:17-18) and calling upon the name of the Lord. (Isaiah 12:3-4; Romans 10:12-13) From this revelation and practice we truly began to sense a freedom in our spirit. Later, this dear couple took us to a meeting of a group of people who were in the same enjoyment we had experienced. We realized that the wonderful feeling we'd had at our regeneration, was an enjoyment that the Lord intended we have all the time. We had stifled that experience by not exercising our spirit. Why were these people who were meeting as the local church in their city in such enjoyment? Because they were exercising their human spirit to fellowship with God. Soon the Lord led us to meet with the local church also and in this He has truly manifested Himself to us and brought us to Christ as our enjoyment. |
